Here we are - Episode 103 AKA Let's Hear It For The Boy! AKA Justin Gets His Man AKA The Episode Of Shiny Clothes. No matter what you call it, I think you love it. I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't and, quite frankly, I doubt that I ever will.
There's just so much to love... I don't even know where to start. I've watched this episode so many times (possibly more than any other) and I always find something new to appreciate.
I love how funny this episode is. Emmett's romance with Katsuo has made me laugh every single time I watch it. From 'Jews vs. Juice' to "Your voice is like a silent wind chime, and your smile is like cherry blossoms floating on a still breeze" to the inevitable, and classic, midnight phone call that simply consists of "How do you say "tacky little cocksucker" in Japanese?" It's the beginning of what I consider a running theme with Emmett - he's constantly looking for love, constantly being kicked in the face by love, and constantly getting up and dancing - fabulously, I might add - in spite of it all.
I love Daphne, especially her first reaction to Brian and her shiny pink dress, and, of course, "Look at that! Is that a girl, or a boy?" She adds so much of that previously mentioned humour to this episode.
I love the dance between Brian and Justin at the end.
I love Justin, from how pouty he is the entire episode - all the way from "He said that's all I was to him. Just a fuck" to "He can do anything he wants" - and then the way he finally realises that he's 'not exactly a troll, you know' and he walks down those stairs, strips off his shirt, starts dancing, and gives Brian's shiny-shirted trick that "Yeah, you know you want me" look. This is just one of the many steps in Justin's journey to Awesome (even though he's already there; I think my metaphor just failed).
On a sadder note, however, this is also the beginning of Ted and Blake's story. I love them together, I really do, and in my mental post-513 'verse, they're always together. But their story has such a sad beginning, and I always end up talking to the TV when Blake is in Ted's apartment: "Oh, Teddy." That's actually something I end up saying a fair bit throughout the entire series. I hate seeing him lying on the floor like that while Blake panics. Thank God for quick cuts, though, because then I'm quickly transported back to Babylon.
And, just to round this off, I have a question for you guys. When Brian steals Justin away from the tricks that were stolen from Brian, why do you think he does it? I only really started to think about it this time around, and the conclusion I reached was that he was proving a point to the tricks, kind of like, "You think he's better than me? Well, let's see what he thinks of me." Brian's point is proved by Justin dropping the tricks like they're hot (I don't know if I've ever used that expression before), and dancing with him and only him.
